Good morning, my name is Holly Eksten and I'm more than excited to present the results of this trial against Mayella Ewell. This very important case involving Mayella Ewell and the court system is because Mayella lied in court under oath to save herself. I feel that Mayella Ewell lied under oath because she wanted to save her name and reputation. She lied under oath during the case of Mayella Ewell against Tom Robinson. In that case, she said Tom had raped her. That is not what actually happened because not one of the stories lined up and she got very defensive about it. The evidence I have brought to the table is very incriminating. My second piece of evidence is that Mayella said “- He chunked me on the floor an’ choked me’n took advantage of me” (Lee 241). That would be very difficult for him to do because he has only one arm. Another piece I have is Mayella said: “No, I don't remember if he hit me. I mean yes I do, he hit me” (Lee 248) She was trying to make it sound like she didn't know if she was hit but she realized she was about to be caught because she had said he did before. The fourth piece of evidence I brought is that Atticus asked if they called a doctor, but they didn't. They didn't call a doctor because there was no crime committed, so the doctor would have found nothing. My final piece of evidence is she tried lying, but Atticus caught her when she was asked about how her dad treats her. Mayella said “Except when nothin'.” instead of saying when he wasn't tolerable, and Atticus said “Except when he's drinking” and she agreed with
