For example, Beyoncé, a black musician today, influences how society views women by encouraging women empowerment in her songs (Napoli). Catharine Beecher is a woman who believed that women should receive the same education as men who studied medicine, law, etc. Catharine Beecher became a founder of the American Women’s Educational Association in 1852, devoting her teachings to young women interested. Beecher eventually made the role of being a teacher mainly a female one (Sturges). In doing so, Beecher was able to inspire many women to advocate for women’s education and right’s today. Now in Connecticut, all genders can go to school and receive equal education. Not only did Beecher assist in the equality of education, but she also helped the American Anti-Slavery Society, which promoted abolition, “In the sense in which Abolitionists explain the terms they employ, there is little, if any, difference between them and most northern persons”(Beecher). Using her strong audience, she was able to convince people to join the cause and remove slavery, allowing for African-Americans in Connecticut to receive more rights to education than previously. Sarah Boone is an African-American woman who worked as a dressmaker but found it difficult to iron them. As a solution, she created her own invention called the ironing board. Today, this invention is still in use, making it easier to iron clothes (Howe). Not only did she inspire minorities to create and pursue their interests, but she also created a revolutionary invention. Boone gave an exceptional representation of minorities by being the first black woman to receive a patent. She was able to show how beneficial opportunities for minorities are. Today, minorities hold the opportunity to create and pursue their interests like creating new technology. For example, a recent discovery called CRISPR-Cas9 is a gene editing technology discovered by women. This invention could be revolutionary for curing inherited diseases and may even be an option for cancer therapy (Rees). Minorities inspire people today to pursue science and obtain the opportunity to learn by standing out as a minority. Because of this, people are finding new discoveries out of opportunity. In Connecticut, many people take advantage of their equal rights and do not appreciate the sacrifices minorities have made for this.
