Natalie Springer Frost English Honors 9-5 7 March 2023 A Harrowing Hostility The misfortune of Shakespeare's tragic play, "Romeo and Juliet," dawned from an old opposition, a senseless conflict, an ancient grudge whose origin has been lost to time. Its existence has disrupted the harmony of its home, and all are tired of it except the rival families themselves; at times, the families only seem to think of themselves. There is one fatal flaw that wounds the characters of this tale, whether physically or emotionally—and it is the feud itself.
According to Collins Dictionary, “A flaw in someone’s character is an undesirable quality that they have.” Many characters in Romeo and Juliet had major flaws. Three characters – Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence – have major flaws that lead to their downfall. All of these various flaws were fatal. Romeo’s tragic character flaw is his impulsiveness.
In Adolescence and The Teenage Crush, Dr. Carl Pickhardt, he describes a romantic crush, “A romantic crush is when someone is compelled by the physical appearance of another person”. People tend to be more attracted to physically attractive people. Examples of a romantic crush can be seen with Romeo in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. In the play, Romeo thinks Juliet is attractive and goes out of his way to get her to like him back, he finally gets her to like him and they get married. Examples of a romantic crush can be found in Romeo and Juliet.
According to the internet it at least takes a few weeks to fall in love with someone. Romeo and Juliet knew each other for 5 days, so how could they have been “in love”? There is no way Romeo and Juliet were in love when they had known each other in 5 days. Therefore, they never “fell in love”. Romeo and Juliet were two teenagers who were claimed to have fallen in love although they barely knew each other.
Loyalty is often considered a positive and admirable trait but it can also have a down side. Loyalty can cause more harm than good and Romeo and Juliet is a perfect example of this. Romeo and Juliet is the story of two lovers whose families are at odds and their feuding is what leads to these lovers' deaths. Throughout the play many characters meet their end because of the loyalty to the houses or to their friends. This includes Mercutio, Tybalt, Romeo, and Paris who all die because of their loyalties.
“My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.” (2.2.140-142) Throughout the tale of Romeo and Juliet, loyalty is shown in different ways. The theme of remaining loyal when things get tough can be seen throughout Romeo and Juliet, through Romeo finds out that Juliet is a Capulet and remaining loyal to her , Juliet remains loyal to Romeo when she found out that he killed her cousin Tybalt, and Mercutio defending Romeo against the insults of Tybalt .
*One of the most iconic love stories ever written has many different love types throughout the story. Shakespeare’s “Romeo And Juliet” has examples of Unrequited love, Romantic love, parental love, Friendship, and Love of Family Honor. Two very prominent love types shown in this story are Unrequited love, and Romantic love. These two love types have similarities and differences, and will be expanded on after examples are shown. The story of “Romeo And Juliet” has many love types.
Alan Watts once said, “Never pretend to a love which you do not actually feel, for love is not ours to command.” (brainyquotes.com). Watts is saying that we can't just say that we love someone, we have to feel our heart swell with the love we have for that person. In William Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love because they automatically fall ‘in love’ after seeing each other once, they decide to get married a few hours after they meet and they are too immature to actually know what love is . One reason Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love is that they fell in love right after they meet (lust at first sight).
If the benefits are large enough, can any corporate decision be justified? Some environmental corporations seem to think that their company’s collateral damage to wildlife are justified. Take the wind mills in California, for example, very noble and grandiose projects but harmful to animals. These companies have defended their projects against animal rights advocates.
Outsiders, from Omaha, Nebraska, two misfits manage to find love for the first time. Star-crossed lovers, Eleanor and Park put a twist on one of Shakespeare 's most famous play, Romeo and Juliet. While madly in love, destiny tears them apart, as their future lies separate from each other. Opposition similar to the ill fated Romeo and Juliet, Eleanor and Park desperately attempt to fight back, but in vain.
The first reason that Romeo and Juliet are not in love due to the fact that they are too childish to fully understand what love is. During the famous balcony scene, Juliet says, “But to be frank, and give [my love to] thee again, And yet I wish but for the thing I have. My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.” (2.2.31-35).
Paradox plays a huge part of making certain characters looking more sophisticated. It makes them look smarter in a way as well as makes you questionable of whether they are as smart. William Shakespeare has a very interesting way of making the characters seem very sophisticated during the play “Romeo and Juliet”. Shakespeare uses juxtaposition as indirect characterization to create a lot of ironic complexity in the characters. Juliet deliberately marries romeo in a foolish way, throughout this play Juliet continues to show how dumb she is in a way because she doesn’t really think about what she is doing like she doesn’t consider the consequences at all.
Statements- Some things that show Romeo and Juliet are in love, is they both are willing to die for each other, they are in love at first sight, and they are very excited to get married right away. In all actuality, this just shows how desperate they were for love and how they were so immature they would just kill themselves and forget about everything they ever once loved. Closing- They didn’t even think about not killing themselves, Romeo immediately went and bought poison when he found out that Juliet was “dead” and Juliet immediately tried to kiss it off his lips when she had seen what he had done and when that didn’t work, she shot herself.
When Love is True True love is a defendable emotion worth personally sacrificing for. In William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo Montague falls in love with Juliet Capulet, the Capulets being revivals of the Montague family. In the late 1400’s, when the two families are fighting, there is a strict, no contact pact between the two families set by the Prince of the town they reside in: Verona, Italy. From meeting and marrying Juliet, illegally returning from Mantua out of exile to see his supposedly dead wife, and taking his own life to be in heaven where she appears to be, Romeo shows that he is truly in love with Juliet and that he is willing to do anything to be with her.
From the moment he sees her at the Capulet party, Romeo immediately falls in love with Juliet. They both fall head over heels for each other as the night progresses. During their time together, they completely put all things aside and forget everything about the world except for their love for one another. Most people seem to think this way about the romance between Romeo and Juliet, but in reality, they aren’t actually truly in love. Romeo and Juliet are not in love with each other because just a day before they met, he felt heartbroken because of a girl named Rosaline who didn 't love him, he pressures Juliet to profess her love to him, and after just barely meeting, they both agree to get married.
