In the time period 1594-1596 William Shakespeare wrote a fascinating story called Romeo and Juliet. The story is trying to convey a strange feeling in two adolescence minds called love. William Shakespeare used countless amounts of literacy devices .After reading and analyzing some parts of the play I have decided to discuss these devices. In act 2 scene 2, Romeo says “With loves light wings did I o’perch these walls for stony limits cannot hold love out”. In my opinion I think that Shakespeare is using personification to show how much Romeo loves Juliet, and that a wall will not stop him to see the love of his life. Romeo was emphasizing that one angry look from Juliet would be worse than twenty of her relatives with swords. So basically saying he rather have twenty sword pointing to him for death than have his love look at him with hate. In all of stanza 1 Juliet says How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore, the orchard walls Are high and hard to climb, and the place death, considering who thou art, if any of my kinsmen Find thee here. Juliet seems very worried about Romeo getting caught and getting in some deep trouble. They are both from feuding families so there is tension between Juliet parents and Romeo’s parents. Therefore if Juliet’s guards find Romeo in her balcony the punishment will be death. According to the quote: “I would not for the world they saw thee here.” Juliet is basically trying to say I would do anything to keep them from seeing you here, the author tries to emphasize Juliet’s feeling towards this very risky situation and it seems that she cares so much about him but she is forced to be mean in order to keep him safe.
