There are many things that happen in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. One of the major themes that recurs is racism. Four areas where the issues of race are presented are the following. First, is how the children interact with Calpurnia. Second, is how Mr.Ewell interacts with Tom Robison as well as the jury during the trial. Third, is the hypocrisy displayed by Aunt Alexandra and Ms. Gates. Finally, this theme is relevant to real life America shown by ISIS who are ruining things such as people’s lives and building because of the hatred they have towards American customs. Racism is almost impossible to overcome because everybody has a different opinion and some people are truly malevolent. Mr.Ewell does not like Tom for many reasons. To start, Mr.Ewell is a racist. He does not like Negros. He is poor white man who lives in the town’s dump with all 8 of his kids. His wife died when his oldest daughter, Mayella was young. Mayella does not have any friends and she does not have any education. Mayella sends her younger bothers and sister to get ice cream so she can be alone in her home. Tom Robinson was walking to work when Mayella asks him to come inside the fence to bust up an old dresser. Once Tom finished his job Mayella asks him to help fix the door up stairs, Tom said that the door is fine so Mayella asked him to grab something in the closet. As he proceeds she hugs him from behind and scares the living heck out of him. Then Tom saw Mr.Ewell from the window and Tom runs as fast as he can without looking back. The trial takes place, and Mr.Ewell said that Tom raped his girl. Everyone in that court knows that Tom is innocent, but because it involves a white female, the jury votes Tom guilty.
