Journal #2 The purpose of the article,“What Colleges Want to See on Your Application” by Emily Driscoll, is to discuss what would differentiate future college applicants in a pool of indistinguishable applications and to aid them in their quest for higher education. This article does have bias in that the author fails to consider Seniors, or students about to graduate from high school, who have neither challenged themselves nor engaged in their neighborhood. Driscoll assumes that their audience has been through every step from community service to recommendations, or has the opportunity to make up for lost time. In the article “What Colleges Want to See on Your Application,” Emily Driscoll discusses the contents the best application must display.
Transcripts When I first started high school, my grades were not that good. I struggled in most of my classes in 9th grade until I realized that I can do so much better. In 9th grade I wanted to play football but because of my grades I could not participate in it. Toward the end of 9th grade I got my grades together and since then I’ve gotten really good grades.
Moreover, I have worked very hard throughout high school to better myself and those around me in the many ways mentioned above. I also serve as a role model, both inside the classroom and out, by pushing myself to accomplish goals even I do not always believe I could, always respecting others and listening attentively to the opinions of people around me, and making an effort to enrich the lives of others. I am hopeful the National Honor Society will help me develop this further, and thank you for taking hte time to read my application.
My strengths also tend to make me feel self-reliant in which case I am comfortable working alone to optimize my talents, skills, knowledge, and innovative thirst. It is possible to work successfully in some projects as an independent person, but in most, the insights and contributions of others are paramount, thankfully, I am also relational and have no problem working in
Who am I? You don’t know me, but hopefully I am different than the many other students applying here; that would be boring. For starters, I am athletic, enjoy being around others, adventurous, and a hard worker. Ever since I can remember I was very interested in sports. I believe that started with my family and OU football when I was three years old.
We must acknowledge that there will be times where we lose our position, only to realize where we stand. Growing up life seemed hard, but now I realized how amazing it was; I had a family who loved me and I was never seen different (discriminated), I was always told I had four very impart jobs: have respect for people even if I didn’t like them, do good in school, always ask questions and never forget where I came from, little did I know I realized where I came from after I left. When I came to the United States of America, New York became a dream, but we must all wake up and stop dreaming; I did after my mother past away a year after I’ve arrived. The world became gray, for I was very downhearted and life felt like death because of all the
