Explain what the empirical findings presented in your assigned article mean in the bigger picture of learning and cognition. In regard to the “Self-Regulated Learning and Socio-Cognitive Theory”, the meaning of the concept is acknowledging one’s learning development. Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) is a variety of learning strategies that are used to achieve one’s goal of learning. According to the example given in Winne & Hadwin (2010, p. 34), the way one learn new information (rather it’s through a instructor, textbook, online resource, etc.), enhances their knowledge and cognitive mindset. For example, after completing a writing assignment, I reread everything I write. After reading, I go back over the instructions of the assignment. Often times, I add more valuable information to clear the understanding and my knowledge of the information. The SRL occurs when individuals change, adjust, reflect, or review their activity of learning. Within the different learning styles, commonly, people tend to observe or manage activities hands-on to enhance their knowledge of learning. …show more content…

From my understanding, knowledge is enhanced by the way an individual learns valuable information that can later be recalled from memory. I seem to have more knowledge on certain things than others. Often times, I seem to know more about things that interest me. In regard to the finding, I did not think about “knowledge” as I completed SRL strategies that boosted my knowledge of the information at hand.

Do they refute or support your current beliefs, and in what ways?

The findings supported my belief of knowledge. I did not think about it that way, but the steps that I take when completing a product, were described as the SRL.
