The audience for this book appears to be literate women and men who acknowledge the interconnectedness of the world. Anyone could read this book to improve cultural competency skills and to gain ideas to make long-lasting changes in women 's lives. All disciplines could benefit from his book, including social work. The National Association of Social Worker’s (NASW) Ethical Values: the dignity and worth of a person and social justice- are addressed and promoted throughout the book (2015).
Ethics and Self-Care in Social Work Practice Ethics guide professional conduct, especially in social work, where practitioners navigate complex human issues. The NASW Code of Ethics outlines six core values foundational to social work practice, including service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence (NASW, 2021; Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2023). These values reinforce ethical decision making and practice standards, equipping social workers to navigate dilemmas and uphold integrity (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2023). Aligning personal values with these standards is crucial for promoting well-being and empowerment, highlighting the importance of self-awareness in social work practices.
One ethical dilemma that I am concerned about is having dual and multiple relationships with my clients. I live in a very rural community where there are not many social work agencies. In my town, there is one school system, few grocery stores and churches, one gym to workout at, and very few restaurants to choose from. If you live in this area, you typically know most of, the people here. Everyone knows each other, and if you don’t know someone, then somebody knows something about you.

This includes the most in need within a society such as the disadvantaged, the poor, and oppressed individuals (Social Work Profession). It is common knowledge that all individuals have a basic human right to live decent and fulfilling lives, yet unfortunately, the world is built around the fact that not all people have equal access to food, shelter, education, and safety (Role of a Social Worker). To be a social worker is to empower those in need and provide the strategies necessary to eventually achieve their goals and live their lives better than their supposed potential.
The organization that I have chosen that is relevant to social work, and is aligned with social work values as articulated by the NASW Code of Ethics is The Department of Children Protection and Permanency (DCPP). The DCPP is New Jersey’s child protection and welfare agency, who assist children and their families who may be struggling. The DCPP provides safety, well-being and the success of children, adolescents, families, and communities. The DCPP helps parents get engaged with services that address the issues they may be facing that allowed for the division’s involvement. The DCPP is responsible for investigating any allegations of child abuse or neglect, and if it is necessary then arranging for the child’s protection, and the family’s treatment.
This is why the ethical code of discrimination is important, social workers should be free of all forms of it in a work setting. By working toward ending discrimination and racism, the ethical code of social and political action is being applied. Respect for cultural and social diversity is being encouraged and promoted. Respect the rights and dignity of service users (CORU 2019). Adhering to ethical principles ensures that social care workers act in the best interests of the service users, maintain confidentiality, respect autonomy and exercise professional duty of care. Additionally, professional boundaries in social care relationships are essential for maintaining ethical conduct. These boundaries help to establish clear guidelines for appropriate behaviour and interactions between social care workers and their service users, ensuring that the relationship remains focused on the service user’s needs and best interests. Maintain high standards of personal conduct and behaviour (CORU 2019).
Profession Code of Ethics Comparison As a social work student, we are provided with the foundational education necessary to succeed in our profession. The National Association of Social Work (NASW) Code of Ethics is the most significant publication because it “is intended to serve as a guide to the everyday professional conduct of social workers” (NASW Code of Ethics, 2017). For this assignment, we are charged with exploring other professional codes of ethics to gain a better understanding of how they may be similar or differ from one another. Therefore, I choose to explore the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics with the intention of conducting a comparison analysis of both documents.
The Code reviews broad ethical principles that reflect the profession's center values and builds a set of particular ethical standards that should be used to manage social work practice. 3. The Code is meant to help social workers recognize relevant considerations when professional obligations conflict or ethical uncertainties arise. 4. The Code provides moral standards to which the general public can take the social work profession responsible.
If social workers always conduct out obligations and duties within the exceptionless rules, it is highly possible that they can only contribute little for the society. It has been argued that the exceptionless rules are very general, such as “do not kill people”. However, doing social work practices is about facing specific cases detailed by detailed. For example, in the practice of social work, code of ethics is the exceptionless law for deontologist social workers and they will always follow the code. Respect is a value held at Mainspring, as stated by Korpela, and it is a value stated 16 times within the Code of Ethics (NASW, 2017; personal communication, April 9, 2018). Furthermore, the parent handbook’s mention of non-discrimination and confidentiality align with the NASW Code of Ethics (2017).
Involving on organizations like AGE of Central Texas and Micah 6 display codes of ethics that they have on their agencies. The reading “Code of Ethics of the national association of social workers” outlines ethical principal and standards that guide the work that social workers must do professionally their practice. By reading the book of the code of ethics I have realized an ethical dilemma that happens to the organization Micah 6 with the clients of the agency. The dilemma that occurs almost every day of the food pantry on Micah 6 is a conflict between a specific professional principle and standards of the client and the personnel of Micah 6. This dilemma happening in the organization Micah 6 food pantry is an ethical and standards principle.
The seven core values of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct are different kind of commitments that we have to follow in order to be in a field of any early childhood care and education. The seven values are: Appreciate childhood as a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycle. , Base our work on knowledge of how children develop and learn. , Appreciate and support the bond between the child and family, recognize that children are best understood and supported in the context of family, culture, community and society. , Respect the dignity, work and uniqueness of each individual., Respect diversity in children, families ,and colleagues., And finally, Recognize that children and adults achieve their full potential in the context of relationships that are based on trust and respect.
Social workers are there to help meet the basic needs of human, also with the need of helping encourage, mentoring, and empower human struggles in society and poverty. The code is designed for many reasons. It identifies core values in which a social worker mission is based, the code summarize broad ethnic principle such as; challenge injustices, respect the inherent dignity and worth of the person, behave in a trustworthy manner, and help people in need and to address social problems. The code is generally designed to help people with relevant needs to there every day life. These codes help apply better and relationship with the worker to client.
