Wouldn’t it be fun to go visit a country, without the embarrassment of having an interpreter? Or learning about foreign cultures and languages in class with your best friends? Languages are very important in multiple countries around the world, but it's not the same case in America. Compared to 56% of the European population in 2006 recorded by the European Commission claiming to be bilingual, meaning that they could speak two languages fluently, only 15 to 20 percent of the American population actually fit that category. Americans are suffering from inadequate education about foreign languages. The children of the next generation should be required to learn a second language …show more content…

In most high schools, the people who do go into a language class are very committed for the language they learn and most find the class extremely fun. But, learning another language could add even more stress for the students already having enough to learn on their plate to learn as it is. However, in a matter of fact, learning another language can be extremely helpful in one’s life, giving them a great source of self confidence in getting them situated in the real world. A recent study according to the 2010 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, showed that Spanish is the primary language spoken at home by almost 37 million people aged five or older. For Math maniacs that’s about 12.3% of the total population and that number will almost definitely increase. Of course, considering that English is a fairly recognized language, it is to be expected in countries like the United States that foreigners to be able to speak fluent English and it has been that way for decades. Yet, it is now the 21st century meaning that there are more complications than ever before. Children are to be expected to do better than their last generation, thus, they have more stress from their classes alone. So in result, adding a second language to learn wouldn’t be as bad as people think it might be and it could also help children with health. A study shows that learning a new language is a very rewarding experience, both mentally and physically. It has been shown that learning a new language can potentially keep Alzheimer’s at bay.
