Cheerleading, a Sport or Not Not long ago, a debatable question has been pondered by many to decide whether or not cheerleading is a sport. After having a self-debate, I have made the decision that I personally do not believe that cheerleading should be considered a sport considering knowing the way cheerleading is ran and how different it is from any other well-known sport. Cheerleading started out back in the 1800’s and still is popular today. Cheerleading began as an all-male activity at college football games in the 1800’s. In the 1920’s cheerleading started to become more of a woman’s sport It quickly became a full-on female sport leaving the males find a new activity to make their own.
In her narrative essay “The Sanctuary of School,” Lynda Barry recounts a story from her childhood that illustrates her relationships at school vs her relationships at home. For example, At home, Parental involvement can include activities such as helping with homework; and parent’s involvement at school may include parents volunteering in the classroom or attending workshops.
Partnership between parents and schools plays a crucial role in a childs development. A positive parent-teacher relationship helps your child feel good about school and be successful in school. It demonstrates to your child that they can trust their teacher, because you do. The partnership between parents/carers and the school needs to be a two way relationship, the parents need information about what and how their child is learning, and the teacher needs important feedback from the parent about the child’s academic and social development. This positive partnership makes a child feel like the important people in his life are working together for the benefit of him/her.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to share information on the development of the child and have a clear and constant flow of dialogue with the family. This will enable both parties to deal with any issues that may arise within the family, school or community. It also my belief that parents should have an active part in their child’s learning and be able to lend a hand whenever necessary, and having open communication with them will allow this transparency and connection between home and school. The community is vital in ensuring that the facilities around the community and school is appropriate for the different children and families to live in and grow. A very good example of this successful collaboration is the Reggio Emilia approach in Italy.
It is a symbol of respect for all of humanity. It can be argued that inclusive education is about social justice and equity and takes into account learner’s abilities, potential and diverse needs. The learner does not have to adapt to the social system. The school or the education system has to change in order to meet the learning needs of all children in a given community (Kisanji 1999; Armstrong 2005). In other words, inclusion involves restructuring the cultures, policies and practices in schools so that they respond to the diversity of students in their locality (Booth and Ainscow 2002).
