Explain Why High School Should Start Later

Introduction
You wake up one morning happy and rested at 6 o'clock. You jump out of bed literally and are ready for the day at school. You went to bed the night before at 9:30, so you got 8.5 hours of sleep. You are energized for the day, you learn easily, and aren’t tired in class. The next day goes differently. You don’t wake up at 6 a.m., but at 6:45, causing you to rush and become stressed. The night before you went to bed at 12 a.m., watching t.v. for no reason. You don’t perform in school as well as usual, you fall asleep in class multiple times, and you are grouchy all day. Sheridan Junior High School and Sheridan High School shouldn’t start school later because not all kids have a problem getting up in the morning, there is a greater performance, and most kids have after school activities.

According to Should School Start Later, on page 21, “A later start, say opponents, also interferes with some teen’ part-time jobs and disrupts afterschool sports and clubs”(21). When school starts later, many kid’s and teen’s jobs and/or chores will be a struggle to do or be there. Many teens have jobs to pay for gas, buy items, and to save up for college. If schools start later, teens will have to work on weekends and work during summers constantly so they can save for college and to pay for gas. Teens and kids also do after school church/ religious clubs a certain day that it is scheduled. Also, kids have to walk home in the dark from school. Many crimes like rape, murder, and kidnapping happens in the dark, so kids will have a higher chance of getting
