Why is it important to learn about World War 2?
World War 2 (WW2) was an event that took place during the time period from 1939-1945. It was a continuation of WW1 but lasted 2 years longer. More people died during WW2 and the extermination of Jews and other races was a big part of the German ideology. This is why the Nazis persecuted specific human races; like Jews, Gypsies and Serbs, homosexuals and those who had disabilities. It changed the map; some counties grew bigger, others grew smaller and new countries were born as well as taken over. Germany, for example, had to give away land to Poland and the Soviet Union as payment for the damage they had caused.
During WW2, some countries made huge advances within medicine and weaponry. Many new inventions were made, including rocketry, medicine and radar. It played a big part in WW2 seeing as it made it possible to discover the enemy before they attacked and also track storms. This helped them with planning military operations. Penicillin had already been invented before the war but was first mass produced when it was needed in large quantities.
There are some similarities between WW2 and wars that are happening now, like the one in Syria. IS could remind us about Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. Therefor, learning about WW2 could teach us how to deal with this situation or how to prevent it from going as far as it did. A mistake that has repeated itself is that both 'Hitler and the Nazi party' and IS have been underestimated. At first they were looked upon as "harmless" to the countries in the west which gave them an advantage, or "head start". The Nazis and IS were and are capable of killing for their ideology. Both try to impose their ideology on other people, not caring about their opinion or religion. While the Nazis would exterminate those who weren't of
