I whole-heartedly agree with Moran when she states that, “the absence of trust impedes effectiveness and progress” (99). People need to be able to rely on one another and feel that what they are saying has value. Also, teachers want to know that administrators are going to put into place the steps in order to reach a goal if that is what they say they are going to do. Finally, parents and students need to have trust in the system which is often difficult when the system has failed them in the past. Therefore, establishing and maintaining this trust in each other is paramount to running a successful student-centered school.

In every school there are set policies and procedures so that all people working within the school are aware and stick to the same rules. Consistency is imperative. All adults working in the school would be : teaching staff, support staff, lunchtime supervisors, kitchen staff, governors, after school staff and temporary staff. There are many policies in schools that children and staff should be aware of.
Good communication skills, the ability to handle administrative duties and maintaining strong student interactions are the qualities that make a professional assistant principal. Assistant principals assist principals and teachers in developing the academic criteria that propel students to reach their full potential. Assistant principals help teachers create lessons, counsel students in educational matters and uphold the disciplinary operations for a productive school environment. A good assistant principal uses experience and knowledge to counsel students about any personal issues that may be affecting their school performance.
Having a positive attitude and good communication As an educational assistant (EA) practicum student, the first strategy I thought of that can help me develop a good relationship with the students and staff is through having a positive attitude and good communication. On the first day, I arrived in school 10 minutes before 8 am, so I can prepare myself and check out the school. The learning coach gave me and my classmate a school tour. As we walk along the corridors, I try to familiarize myself with the school’s structure through listening to the learning coach intently and asks questions about the school. Also, we get to meet most of the school staff.
As a teaching assistant you can give children and young people the tools to building relationships by modelling appropriate behaviour. To encourage trust and understanding, it is necessary to ensure that children understand instructions. Whether for an activity or a fire drill, any miscommunication of instructions can lead to misunderstanding and feelings of unease. When giving instructions it is important to make them simple and concise so that children can remember them.
The benefits of applying boundaries and rules for children and young people consistently and fairly are that all children and young people will know what is expected of them. They will understand what is acceptable and what is not. If rules and boundaries are inconsistent or unfair, children will become confused and will not know what is expected of them. They will be unsure whether their actions or comments will get them into trouble. If rules are not applied consistently as staff are not aware of them, children will react to this and comment on this, e.g. you have given X a warning and have not moved their name on the cloud.
