1560 Words7 Pages

U.S is the Best The moon has been orbiting earth as long as humans were around, but no one really showed any interest in it until 1609. Galileo was the first human to take an in depth look at the moon. After the moon was talked about more and more people began to show interest in not only the moon but the universe around us. The moon and exploration of the moon drove all sorts of scientists and eventually entire countries to try and get a closer look into space. As humans began to research the moon, they realized that the technology they were using was sub-par. This is where the need for technology came in. Essentially the moon and space lead to humans developing greater technology such as: artificial limbs, water purifiers, and space blankets. …show more content…

The major factor is the space race against Russia. It was basically Russia vs. U.S.A to be the first to land on the moon, and certain aspects let the U.S to become the first. Factors that led the United States of America to be the first Country to land on the moon were The Cold War, Humans’ natural curiosity/drive, and technology.
The cold war surprisingly was not an actual war. It was actually political tension between the two super powers of the world, The United States of America and The Union of Soviet Socialist Republicans (USSR). The USSR consisted of current day Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova. Like was stated earlier the U.S and USSR had some serious tensions. They were the most powerful countries in the entire world, and each one wanted to be better than the other. Both fought alongside each other in World War II, but during the Cold War act like that never even happened. Each of the superpowers became very interested in the moon, and wanted to be the first ever country to land a human upon it. This race to be the first country to send someone to the moon became …show more content…

Humans have always been curious about it, and there are two types of curiosity. The first is biological function of curiosity; this is when people like to explore ideas or situations that interest them. The second type of curiosity is scientific curiosity. This is when someone’s brain basically doesn’t like it when something confuses it so it goes and tries to find the answer. The moon landing incorporated both of these curiosities. Humans have been studying the moon, sun, and stars since around 5,000 years ago. It is humans’ natural curiosity to study was is around us, and the sky is all around us. Once technology was advanced enough humans decided to check out the moon and see what they have been wondering about for the past 5,000 years. The other mental factor that sent humans to the moon was again, drive. Another mental factor that put humans on the moon was drive. A famous phycologist Donald O. Hebb described drive as “Drive is not simply a state the decrease of which is rewarding. At high levels the reduction of drive is rewarding, but at low levels, an increase may be rewarding.” Russia and U.S were at the peak of their “unfriendly” competition during the 1960’s. They were the two super powers of the world and constantly had to one up each other. There was not anything more the U.S wanted than to beat Russia to the moon. This is where drive comes in. The U.S was driven by the fear of losing to Russia in the
