As I grew, I observed my mother struggle with finances, working, and spending quality time with my siblings and me. My mother was a teenager when she gave birth to me. This event impacted her life because it forced her to stop going to school, start working and start to pay for all the expenses we needed in life. Without an education, this only became harder for my mother. Having three children and being a single mother, she became more cautious about her steps and concerned about our families stability. Now that she is older and more mature about her decisions she gives my siblings and I advise such as< “Don’t get married to soon. Take your time and take care of yourself. The national Department of Health and Human Services claims they have sex education class in Texas; however, only small portions of Texas schools receive a sex education class or even a lesson about sexual intercourse. Texas has one of the highest birth rates in the United State. Furthermore, parents also influence teenage pregnancy. An example is many parents in the United States believe that it is not necessary for their children to take such a class. However, parents should be the first people to talk about being sexually active. Drwal state, “Even though parents should be the first to teach sexual health to their children, most of them do not feel confident to talk to their own children about sex” (Drwal et al. 1), leading adolescents to have no prior knowledge about teenage pregnancy, STD’s or other difficulties like poverty. Why is teenage pregnancy such an important issue in the United States? AN example is, “The lack of proper sex education can have negative impact on the psychological development of the adolescent” (1); moreover, teenage pregnancies can lead to poverty and lack of education. Beth Azar states in her article, “The percent of children who live under the poverty line in the United States is forty percent” (Azar 1839). Because of this, children living under poverty have fewer resources in their life. Many juveniles who experience teenage pregnancies have been proven to lack education. Poverty is not the only problem issue that a teenager might face. The health of the baby and the parents also play a major factor. Since the teenage mother is very young, her body have not fully developed yet. Causing medical problems with the adolescent and the baby. This lack of development could harm the baby, which could cause the teenager to give birth to a premature baby (Marioara et al. 19). However, many adolescent and parents are unaware of this problem hence affecting them later in their futures. Adolescents should be informed about sexual intercourse to reduce the rate of unexpected pregnancies, to ease health worries, and other problems they might face like
