Dear Members of the Selection Committee, I, Rebecca Hsu, am applying for the 2023-24 VP of Public Relations position. During my freshman year, I was hesitant to join FBLA due to personal fears and did not continue my journey here after the first meeting. This year, I was able to muster enough courage to put myself out there, join projects, and compete. My experiences this year at FBLA have shaped me in ways indescribable and built upon various skills, which I want to share with future members, by leading our chapter in a new direction. My various experiences in graphic design and social media have given me highly relevant skills, that I believe qualifies me for this position. Within our chapter's Partnership with Business, I was on the Social Media, Marketing and Outreach Committee, where I was given an amazing opportunity to work with a real-world company to create promotional content for them. For my speaking tryouts earlier this year, I interviewed fellow peers on why they quit FBLA, to create my campaign on promoting student involvement in FBLA. The answers I received aligned with my own experiences during my freshman year: fear of failure. Through promoting our chapter as the FBLA with 23 (now 24) consecutive sweepstakes at CA SLC, I found students believed they needed to enter this club, fully confident in what they wanted to do, and only then, would they be able to succeed inside the club. If I have the ability to work internally in the club, it will be a priority of mine to have HHS FBLA take the first step in mitigating students' fears.
