This is my second application for ALDP. I have had many great opportunities this last year that has helped me to better understand the importance of the competencies as our foundation. I have been able to work with great mentors, and contribute to center and department-wide projects. Throughout these experiences, I have learned a bit about myself. I have known that there would always be room for improvement, I hadn’t realized that I had so much to offer as well.
Prompt 1 - Strength and Development
I consider Building Talent to be my strength, and Strategic Visioning to be an area of development. I have a long relationship with my peers, as was the Service Advisor at one DRN Facility for 10 years, and another for 2 years before that. My willingness to guide others in negotiations, estimating, and provide a change in perspective garnered respect and trust from my peers, and allowed the Supervisors in my department see the impact I make on those around me. I continue to mentor those that have expressed interest in applying for APD, and will often have new employees at my desk for side-by-sides. I make an effort to teach for self reliance and decision-making, versus giving the answer to an easy way out. I believe is it is in part due to this quality that I was selected to represent

Our Supervisors have the important task of understanding the needs and goals, while utilizing the assets of their team to effectively meet those goals. Not only are they responsible for their own contributions to the department, they manage the ongoing training of their staff and look for ways to actively keep them engaged. I feel that this is a very challenging leadership position, because it requires patience, emotional intelligence from almost strategic standpoint to effectively manage a team while sometimes having to closely manage your time to make sure you are able to complete your own assigned
