In the movie, Wonder, the main character, Auggie Pullman, has a facial deformity that affects his entire life. During his first year of Beecher Middle School, Auggie’s homeroom teacher, Mr. Brown, presents the class with a monthly precept. A precept is a general rule intended to regulate behavior or thought. Mr. Brown’s precept “Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.”, can describe Auggie’s development as an individual. The development of his personality throughout the movie is astounding even though he had some ups and downs. Auggie’s friends and acquaintances help Auggie to change and grow as a person. The precept “Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much” was first introduced to me through the movie Wonder. To me the precept means, that it is not hard being kind and that the effects of being kind are great. No one knows what a person is going through at the moment and the possibility of helping that person with kind words could turn their bad day into a good day. The precept also gives me a deeper meaning that our words holds weight to them and that they could affect an individual in the long run. The precept that Mr. Brown could be shown in a different angle, instead of emotional effects kindness can also reap physical effects. Being kind has positive effects in our lives. Research has shown that being kind actually increases one's overall sense of well-being and reducing stress levels. The act of being kind also promotes a healthy lifestyle. It helps us relate to other people and have more positive relationships with friends, family, and even strangers we encounter in our daily lives. In short, it is good to be
