It began with the creation of steam powered machines and factories. In the 1800s cities grew around factories a large population of workers moved from their homes in the country and migrated to the city to find employment. In the mid-19th century over half of the Britain population had moved into the city. Back then factories conditions where horrible because of the conditions it gave factory owners the opportunity to exploit their labors so they hired men, women, and children even though the children and women were highly favored they were only paid minimum wage even though they were making the same product.
