It is a known fact that all of the meat and dairy that we eat come from farmed animals; what is not known is what the animals in the farms go through in order for us to have meal. Each day, a farmed animal is subjected to various abuses until they are killed and processed. It is said that ten billion land animals are abused and most of the animals we eat aren’t even healthy due to their living state at the farms. Organizations around the United States are working tremendously hard in order to change the harsh treatment of farmed animals and are willing to give their all to change the lives and future of these animals. In the article, ‘Factory Farming is Bad for Investors, Too’ by Erin Eberle, he states, “Everyone knows that factory farming is bad for animals, humans, and the environment….For instance, factory farms are both significant contributors to climate change (livestock operations emit more greenhouse gases than the entire transportation sector) and are likely to face severe financial strain as the planet heats up (a 21 percent increase in ‘heat stress’ days is predicted for the cattle industry by 2045)” Factory farming plays such a he role in climate change and if factory farming continues it will really hurt the planet, humans and animals even more. However, many companies are beginning to provide different food options other than factory-farmed products. Fast food places like Wendy’s, McDonalds, Burger King are all moving to battery caged free companies which is putting those companies out of business and those animals free. Other companies are also shifting to different farms where the treatment of the animals are better which is inspiring others to do the same. So far, nine U.S states passed laws to ban the use gestation crates which doesn’t allow the animals to move around. There is so much public pressure that many of these issues are being spotlighted and changed. In the article, ‘Reinventing the Poultry Industry’ by Farm Forward, they say, “With pig welfare making huge strides, and with public pressure for the improved treatment of farmed animals continuing to mount, Farm Forward believes it’s time for poultry welfare to be spotlighted. What the Hummer is to fuel efficiency, poultry is to animal welfare.
