In The Book Thief, Liesel’s father, Hans, was drafted to fight in the war, but he was allowed to return home after an accident. Due to the absence of Hans, Liesel felt an emptiness in her life because she had become very close to him. The return of her father restored her faith not only in humanity, but in the outcome of the war that was being fought. Another positive moment for Liesel was when she brought snow downstairs to Max so he could experience the weather.
