Abstract This paper is focused on a family who doesn’t necessarily have problems in their marriage, but they run into issues that are unexpected due to the job that the father holds. The mother and four children run into different situations that with a normal family situation might be easier handled, but because the father is gone for most of the week they have to solve them in a different way. The theory related in this paper is the family systems theory. If the couple decided that therapy was an option for them then I feel that the internal family systems therapy for couples. When I asked about what was unexpected with the job Krista said, “I really didn’t realize how often Jason would be gone. He started out only working eight days on where he traveled a couple hours away from the family and sometimes out of state, and then he would have seven days off to spend with us. He now works Monday through Thursday, and has Friday through Sunday off.” (Steiner & Steiner, 2014) She said that she also feels like a single type mother at times and that they have really had to adjust schedules for the entire family, and had issues in communication and trust. Jason said, “The hardest thing about being away for so long is being away from my wife and kids. I also miss a lot of their school functions, and the extracurricular activities.” (Steiner & Steiner, 2014) These are hard things for a child to not have their father at, but the bond between this family is a strong one and the love they show for their children is so great that the children have a great understanding of why dad cannot make it to some things. The oldest son Waylon was doing Football, Braxton is in kickboxing, and Hallie and Leyla are enrolled in gymnastics. Krista said that the kids love what they are doing and feels that because they are only focusing on one activity they are excelling at them and are happy with the progress that they see. (Steiner & Steiner, 2014)
The bond within this family is amazing. They are one of the happiest families I have seen. Do they have struggles? Almost everyday. The difference is that they make the most of what they have and trust in their decisions as a couple that whatever happens will be for the best. They have created bonds that are not easily broken and at this point have been through a lot and made the most of every day. I asked Krista if she would like me to change the names in the paper so that it was more private. She replied, “This was all part of our journey, and I am not ashamed.” (Steiner & Steiner, 2014)
