Gabby Douglas was two times gold winning Olympic winner. She participated in the Summer Olympics in 2012 at London. She was seventeen when she won. Winning she was named the first African-American woman in all of Olympic history to become an all-round champion. Also the first to win gold in more than one section in the same Olympics. When Douglas was four years old, her sister was doing gymnastics and she encouraged Gabby to try it. At age eight, she won level four all-round title at the Virginia State championships. Gabby continued winning and training. Eventually, Douglas wanted better training. Gabby moved to Des Moines, Iowa when she was fourteen. She couldn’t do much at that time. She just practiced bars. She was named the flying squirrel. She was named that because with all her practice on the bars she looked so graceful going from bar to another with flips. After she recovered, Gabby became part of “The Fierce Five” team that was organized by Chow. She tried out for the Olympics as an individual and part of a team. She was guaranteed a sure spot in July of 2012. Later in the same summer she participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics, and it was located in London. She participated as a team, with the Fierce Five, as an individual, uneven bars, and won all-round 1st place. First she was the first African American to win gold in the gymnastic Olympics game. Second, she was the first to win to gold medals in the same game. Third she was the first all-round champion to not get a medal as an individual event since 1952. She got 8th place in the uneven bars and 7th on the balance beam. After she won she was saying that she wants to continue to train to compete in the 2016 Olympics. She has moved to Los Angeles.
