The SWOT analysis conducted in Exhibit 1 of this report, along with further discussion of each analytical section, reviews FB’s current strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities to capitalize on while minimizing business threats. The strength of FB’s current business operations is evident through its successful 25-location expansion and high rankings on the Canada’s Favorite Supermarket 2015 survey; however, FB’s largest threat to expansion into the downtown Toronto area may be location. Any additional cost reduces the margins of their sales, and ultimately the profitability of the company. However, as mentioned previously, price is becoming less of a factor in the buying decision as the current healthy eating trend grows. With higher prices, Farm Boy can provide the assistance and convenience that large populations such as South Asians and Chinese groups value to help save time in their days.1 Since 40% of Canadians eat out for lunch but only spend 30 minutes or less eating, often at their desks due to the guilt of being unproductive despite research showing that taking breaks from work increases energy and job satisfaction, FB’s more-for-more strategy may provide a solution.9 FB stores provide eating areas with Wi-Fi. Ideally, a high-stress workforce can leave their desks, but enter an environment where it is still appropriate to eat lunch while being on your laptop and completing other productive tasks such as paying bills, sending personal emails, or banking.
