Romeo & Juliet Essay “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” is a play written by William Shakespeare about 420 years ago. The play is set in Verona, a city-state located in Italy, where two prestigious families battle over an ancient rivalry. In a twist only Fate can produce, a young man named Romeo from the Montague family falls in love with girl named Juliet from the Capulet family. They marry quickly, but keeps the marriage a secret from their families. However, the fighting between the families worsen, and the attempt to keep the secret causes Romeo and Juliet to take their lives in the end. Many factors came together to contribute to the tragedy. As with other Shakespearean plays, Fate plays a role to cause the tragedy to occur. It creates many unfortunate timings which spiral into a storm raining the blood of the …show more content…

The first fateful event that occurs is the Capulet servant approaches Romeo and asks him to read the Capulet party guest list. It is a pure coincidence that the servant chooses Romeo, but this started the whole chain reaction. It alerts Romeo to this party, where he met and fell in love with Juliet. This also caused Tybalt to seek a duel with Romeo, which eventually lead Mercutio dead and Romeo banishèd. The second event that contributes to the tragedy is Friar John, the messenger for Friar Laurence, gets stuck in a quarantine, which prevents him from traveling to Mantua and pass the message of Friar Laurence’s plan to Romeo. This leads Romeo to believe Juliet kicked the bucket and plans his own death aside Juliet’s soulless vessel in the Capulet tomb. The third event of fate comes when Friar Laurence decides he want to take Juliet’s sleeping body to his house. It’s very unfortunate that he arrives at the Capulet tomb just a little too late. Late enough for Romeo to slay Paris, and to kill himself via a vial of poison. If Friar Laurence arrives sooner, he could’ve prevent the
