In the past, Tyler the creator’s much of music has been ostracized from a large portion of the Hip Hop community. His first three projects were labeled by Hip Hop fans as, weird or mad. Some people even called it blasphemous or satanic music. The vast majority of the opinions made by people were from people with very basic understandings of what exactly Tyler was writing about, while others based their opinions off ignorance. Consequently, his music rarely made it to radio. However, his past two projects showcased a period of growth for Tyler. While most artists never exhibit any growth after their first album, Tyler wanted more for himself and was determined to perfect his craft with these two albums. The album is a reminder that evolution is key. Tyler could have stuck with the eccentricity of CHERRY BOMB, but he continues to strive pushing himself out of his comfort zone. FLOWER BOY is an exposé of everything new about Tyler; he does not want to be known as a rapper as usual. He loves to produce, direct music videos, style clothes, and act. This project seeks to show that he is a master of his craft, not mastered by it. Unlike CHERRY BOMB there is much less rapping on this album. Being that rap has been worn out, Tyler decides sing instead of rap on songs like “See You Again.” Tyler’s greatest trade is his desire to inspire others to be whatever they want to be. The artist that used to rap about rape and murder has grown up to bring about songs like “November.” Because all of the songs written and produced by Tyler, it is relatable cathartic and more importantly, the album has an amazing vibe. The inspiration for this album came from a numerous amount of pop music that Tyler was listening to while writing this album. Many songs including “911/Mr. Lonely” manifest a combination of sad lyrics along with joyful chord progressions and melodies that create an amazing vibe. Tyler calls treats this album like a score which is why he tries to refrain from rapping as much as he did in CHERRY BOMB. He seems to be fond inn combining songs as well. On track ten of every project that he released, is a blend of more than one song. For example, “911/Mr.Lonely,” or, “FUCKING YOUNG/PERFECT,” are both coincidently singles on both of his albums CHERRY BOMB and Flower Boy. Tyler has continued to keep this theme alive throughout all of his albums to date and has been consistent in doing so. Tyler is additionally known for his varied album artwork.
