The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that “the emission of air pollutants play an important role in a number of air quality issues” (EPA, 2014). The air quality trend report found that in the United States approximately 89 million tons of pollution is discharged into the air (EPA, 2014). Pollution in the air can cause many things including reduced breathability of air, visibility and smog issues, depletion of the ozone layer, and the creation of acid rain because of the deposition of acids into the atmosphere.
