Fortunately, for most of my career, I have been employed by large corporations. I began my employment at Holiday Corporation in 1980, where I served for seven years before the reservation center closed, and the company, eventually moved its headquarters to Atlanta. I was fortunate to have already been employed with FedEx, and have been for nearly thirty years. I recall during the early years in both companies, you could hardly enter any department without observing paper stacked to the rafters. At that particular time, FedEx hired employees just to maintain paper control. However, technology has changed things tremendously since then. FedEx support cleaner, healthier and efficient communities. FedEx has a sustainability program Earth Smart that includes outreach that focus on three areas (FedEx, 2014).
Sustainable Transportation: This benefits the environment by reducing emissions and congestion, improving safety and widening accessibility (FedEx, 2014).
Sustainable Cities: This supports healthy environmentally responsible city environments through conversation and restoration of parks (FedEx, 2014).
Sustainable Ecosystems: Promotes ecosystem feasibility by supporting sustainable forestry and rehabilitating natural habitats (FedEx, 2014).
There is also Sustainability with FedEx Office. FedEx office and Print Center is committed to reducing its impact on the environment by using recycled paper, reducing carbon emission, and creating solar-electric shipping hubs (FedEx, 2014).
Technology is here to stay; therefore large companies like Anglo American have no choice but to be sustainable. FedEx is a great example of how its technology, product and process development makes them a sustainable large company.
