Toyota would be in a very different place, had they used the low cost decision to run their company. They might have totally different customer than they currently have. They would have the opportunity to make more models for a wider customer base. When comparing the number of Toyota models 12 and Ford 16 in the Ford brand but they also own Troller, FPV and Lincoln, you may not think that there is a big difference, but when you add up the number over the years it could be quite significant. They would need to keep more parts in stock, so they might need to keep a warehouse space. FedEx saw a need and filled it. At one point in time the United States Postal Service was the only way to ship packages. One problem with being the one and only is that you don’t put an importance on customer service. This allows others to start doing it better. FedEx started filling the need for reliability and to safely get packages to their destination. “FedEx has become synonymous with quality and dependability.” (Lavinsky, 2015) FedEx strives to keep customer service at a high with many checks and balances. The United States Postal Service does still deliver 1st class and bulk rate mail to your home on a daily basis. No one has really ever tried to compete with that service. They have also partnered with Amazon to get your packages delivered in a timely fashion, so you now see postal trucks in your neighborhood on Sundays. This does tend to be more of a larger city service but it does show that United States Postal Service is trying to get back on track and earn some of those customers back.
