In business, the problem of obtaining too many products will occur. Knowing when to discontinue one of those products is the key to saving money. There will come a time in a products life when its sales will decrease for whatever reason. CEOs and managers should the ones held responsible for discontinuing an individual product. For example, in the grocery industry, wholesalers are always stopping items. Associated Wholesale Grocers suspends elements that are not fast sellers out of their warehouse. Evidently, this means that the items they choose to discontinue are no longer available to its customers. Chevrolet was faced with the same situation with their automobiles. GM was considering discontinuing the Camaro because new designs were similar to the old models (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). As the CEO or manager that has the responsibility of discontinuing a product, the product that should be discontinued is the Chevy Volt. Although the Volt won car of the year, it should be suspended because of the safety hazards (MacKenzie, 2011). Chevrolet could use the money saved from production to create a better smart car. Another product that I would cut is the Spark. The Spark is too much like the Sonic because of both of their hatchback designs. Also, the Spark is smaller than the sonic. If Chevy created cars that are alike, customers will more than likely become dissatisfied Chevy’s designs.
