I decided to research the career path of a Chief Financial officer. I came to this decision because I’m very interested in the field of business and money. My major at Rowan is business and I plan to minor in Management Information systems. My ultimate goal is to become a CFO of a successful company or even start my own company and be a CEO. I was inspired by a coworker to pursue business as my career path. Ever since I was a little kid I was very interested in business, making money, and networking. I believe I have a very business minded personality and a strong skill set that would help me prosper as a CFO. She also mentioned that she has four kids and loves spending time with them and going to their sports games and the job sometimes disallowed her to attend these memorable events. Emelia described her salary as a bonus to the job. She wouldn’t disclose an exact amount but did say she makes over seven figures which is way over the median pay for a CFO according to bureau of labor statistics. The BLS states the median pay for a Financial manager is around $117,000 per year. The position of CFO was not listed However; a CFO can be considered a financial manager. Some advice that Emelia said during the interview was to take college seriously and do my very best in everything I do. Employer’s love hardworking, smart, responsible individuals. She also said to continue pursuing my current major of Business Administration and recommended I go for a master’s degree. I plan on doing my very best and receiving my master’s in business administration and minoring in Management Information systems. I plan to hopefully study abroad spring semester of my sophomore year and also begin applying for internships as early as summer of sophomore year. I also plan on joining a few of the business clubs that Rowan offers and further my skill set in public speaking and economics. I also plan on building my social skills as well as further advancing my strategic planning skills so I’m accurately prepared for managerial positions and can be considered a good candidate in the future for top executive positions at big time
