“Chains” is a book that follows the journey of a 13 year old african american girl named Isabel and her younger sister Ruth, the book follows the genre of historical fiction and it was written by Laurie Halse Anderson. One of many characters in this book that continue to carry the theme of bravery is Isabel she demonstrates this because she does everything her master wants her to do, she takes big risks which could get her in big trouble, and during all of this mess she still takes care of her little sister Ruth. Louie Zamperini was stranded in the middle of the ocean, on a raft for 47 days, then endured over 2 abusive years in POW camps. Louie was born a troublemaker and became a troublesome boy, but his brother, Pete, led him into the career of running, which loomed in his life until he passed. Later, he enlisted into the army and his bomber went down, Louie and Phil made it to Japanese camps, unlike the third crewmate, and luckily survived the harsh treatments of the camps for 2 years. Louie came back to America and decided to live his life to the fullest and take nothing for granted. In the novel Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, she uses Louie’s real life experiences to show his two most important traits: courageousness and determination.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be living your life in fear? Constantly being wanted, and living on the run and in fear only because you are a divergent? I have read the chapters 1-27 in the book Insurgent, in the beginning Tris and Tobias were on their way away from the city and away from the erudite, who were taking control. After they find out that the erudite are searching for them, they decide to take a train back to the center of the city and stay in the warehouse with a bunch of other divergent.
There are many traits possessed by those called heroes. Whether it is in real life or in fiction, in the past, present, and future every hero desires these character: traits intelligence, bravery, and honesty. “Montag picked a single small volume from the floor. In the book Fahrenheit 451 there does not seem to be one definite heroic character throughout the book. In fact, most people are portrayed as bad people who do bad things or have to wrong motives in life. Guy Montag is a character that is usually viewed as the antagonist; however, he is actually the hero of the novel because the bad things he does are actually done for good. People often view Guy as the antagonist because of the things he does. He works as a fireman, who burns books, and even people at times.
Rikki Tikki Tavi prefiguring the battle between the mongoose Rikki tikki tavi and Nag the king cobra. The struggle between the mongoose and snake is the central focus of the story and the poem, which foreshadows the conflict but only hints at its resolution and creates a sense of suspense and expectation before the story even begins. In the first paragraph the setting and the main characters are introduced Rikki tikki tavi who is established as the hero with the help of Darzee the tailor bird fights a battle in the garden of a bungalow in colonial India. Rikkis curious and energetic personality is also established. Rikki tikki tavi washed by a flood from his parents home into the garden of a bungalow lies unconscious in the garden path.
In the book Renegades by Marissa Meyer, many things happen throughout the book that many will find interesting. This story follows two main characters, Adrian Everhart and Nova Artino/Mclain. In this world, there are these people who are prodigies with superpowers that they either inherit or are born with. There is also a Council that is made of the best superheroes or Renegades, all around the city that this book takes place in and the son of the top two Council members is Adrian Everhart with their leadership skills and the ability to make whatever he draws come to life. There are also villains in this world of heroes called the Anarchists and within these villains is the niece of the formerly ruler of Gatlon City during the Age of Anarchy.

Dr. John Prochaska, opens the second chapter of his nonfiction work Extreme Heroism by writing, “The first thing that sets extreme heroism apart from other forms of heroism is its relationship to injustice and justice; it is partly a response at an emotional level to seeing an injustice, hearing of an injustice, or otherwise experiencing an injustice.” In Bradbury’s world of Fahrenheit 451, the protagonist Guy Montag lives in a similar world of injustices; a city of rampant oppression, extreme totalitarianism, and limited knowledge protected by threats of destruction. Living in a brutal environment like this pushes people to intellectual suicide in order to stand living in their environment; most opt to let themselves be permanently distracted
Adam Soer Mr. Poulos ENG 3U1-06 11 June 2023 Montag: A Hero Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is set in a dystopian future where Guy Montag embarks on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery and transformation. At the beginning of the novel, Montag is a fireman tasked with the duty of burning books, a source of knowledge and independent thinking. However, as the novel continues Montag emerges as a hero.
When I started reading the book City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare, I set my focus on the lens of social issues, and my frame of archetypes/archetypal characters. All of these components add up to show important themes. After reviewing my notes, I realized that there is a seed idea of “bravery” that the the main character shows through my lens and frame. Clary (the main character), is worked up by the thought that her father is trying to take over the Shadowhunter world and enslave all of her kind, which is the social issue.
Fear can be defined as an unpleasant feeling triggered by a situation. It is an emotion encountered by every human being. However, the reactions of people to fear may vary. Indeed, it ranges from the loss of rationality to the capacity of adaptation in extreme conditions. Thus, fear can be perceived as a weapon to control and manipulate society.
It is crazy to think how pop culture can point to the things it works so hard to reject, but in the case of Divergent by Veronica Roth, parallels between it and the gospel abound. Divergent is set in a dystopian Chicago in which the citizens are divided into 5 factions; the brave, the selfless, the intelligent, the honest and the kind. The story follows Tris Prior, a sixteen year old girl who realizes her Divergence, or possession of characteristics of more than one faction. The novel and film adaption of Divergent include many similarities to the gospel, notably the emphasis on a choice of commitment, the concept that we need more than one characteristic to grow, that salvation is brought about through sacrifice, and that humankind is at its heart, evil.
While in both movies, Hunger Games and Divergent, share similar characteristics of a dystopian genre, they do not take on the same features as each other. This is usually because the structure is rigid and predictable although there can be certain differences. These differences and similarities could be their themes, setting or costumes that are used in the novel or film. In the Hunger Games and Divergent, the theme of rebellion is seen throughout the film.
