Every adolescent wants to be accepted, most importantly by their older peers. I truly cherish making other kids, especially the younger ones, feel welcome and comfortable in school. On the other hand, I have the ability to take charge of a situation and lead others to the best moral and
In addition, some high school students may not like the clique they are associated with and try to fit into a “popular” group. For example, I had another friend that wanted to hang out with the “popular” students. He was invited to a party but there was not alcohol so they told him if he stole a couple of bottles from the nearby CVS, he could hang out with them. They showed him how to steal a bottle of alcohol from the store and told him to do it after. He committed the crime and was able to get away with it because the store policy says that they cannot chase them.
Out of the few I mentioned I am going to focus on the jocks and the nerds. Nerds are the ones who catch the most heat meaning they are the ones who get picked on the most it makes them feel bad about themselves. Many students believe nerds think they’re so smart, I say this because I witness this before when I was in high school. Athletes (the celebrities) of school have a title to uphold so they go and bully the nerds around calling them out their names and one of the most common
Jing especially wasn’t very popular in her mother’s eyes because she wasn’t a prodigy. Angus was popular but in a bad way. All of the “popular” kids at his school would do things to make fun of him in front of the whole school just to embarrass
I can be goofy at times and I try to make people laugh as much as I can. I would describe myself as determined and focused on school. I try to get involved with as much activities as I can. I am funny at times, but can be serious when I need to be.
The groups vary based on hobbies, personalities, and even physical appearance. On the first day of school, Melinda describes this phenomenon: “We fall into clans: Jocks, Country
Conformity is present in every group situation with adolescents. Adolescents are always looking to be a part of a group, usually conforming to the standards of the group. Adolescents often conform because they want to have the approval of the peers that are well liked or “popular”. A great example of adolescents and conformity is in the chick flick ‘Mean Girls’ through the different cliques in high school and how it affects the peers themselves. Caty, the main character, is faced with several difficult situations where she decides to conform with her high school peers getting her in trouble that becomes hard for her to escape.
There are many girls that are like Claire. Shy, timid, but sweet. You can still be popular no matter what you wear and how you look. “Popular” is just the way you feel when everyone wants to be you. When you have a special group of friends that always save a seat for you, never leave you out, and don’t go anywhere without you.
“We are social creatures to the inmost centre of our being…” Karl Popper. In my high school, as with any high school, Popper’s social creature idea stated in the preceding quote rang true because everyone tended to flock together into groups. There were many groups in my high school including the “band geeks” and the “AP kids.” The band geeks included the students that played instruments in band class. The AP kids were the students who took advanced classes.
As a child, I was an okay kid. I tried to be nice and polite to everyone. I was talkative with the neighbors and had a big group of friends. However, I did get into some trouble with those friends. I was vandalizing property and got caught.
The saying that “opposites attract” can also play a part in these. Saying you’re popular sounds like something you would say in middle or high school, because you feel like popularity is important. Most people think when they hear the word popular is someone who is confident around the majority of people. They also can talk just about anything, even the negative.
but it has happened. I like to be alone a lot of the time. Like Johnny and Ponyboy, they like to walk alone a lot and I like to do that as well. I don’t like being popular because it’s to much stress and anxiety just like the characters, They don’t like to be called certain names and don’t like all the attention.
The friends I started talking to were the people that also were brought down by the popular kids. I had nothing in common with these people and wanted to leave as soon as I met them. I would try to fit in again with the popular kids by acting out. By doing this, Mr. England and Mrs. Eirich didn’t like me. Me and Anthony sat next to each other in Mrs. Eirich class and would make jokes the entire period
Jael Uscanga Chris Kroh POLS 1101 10/23/2017 Gun control and gun Rights In America, the use of firearms has been a part of the society since its birth. This debate has always been an unsettled balancing act.
Some peer groups can be good and some can be bad. The peer group that I was a part of in high school was bad. In high school I was always a little different and did not have many fiends because the clique or peer group in my high school used the Social Typing which is a “labeling process that begins when a person violates a norm. Negate sanctions are applied to norm violates in the form of criticisms, punishments, and/or labels.” They labeled me as a “dorky weird girl.”
