Approaching the time of the European Renaissance, in 1377, Florence, Italy had welcomed its future architect, sculptor, and artist, Filippo Brunnelschi. He was raised in a wealthy Florentine family, taken care of by (University of St Andrews- Article) Brunellesco di Lippo and Giuliana Spini. (The Collector- Article) After building the dome and creating linear perspective, he was known as The Father of Renaissance Architecture. He had developed new concepts for both art and architecture that had a huge impact on Renaissance society. During the early 1400’s, Brunelleschi’s ideas started to spark. Around 1415, Filippo had created an art technique called linear perspective. (Cove Collective- Article) Linear perspective is used when a single fixed point is in the distance and lines converge to meet that point, the result appears to give the piece of art more depth and a 3D look (making it look more realistic). Not only did he create an art concept that would be used in modern art techniques, but he also designed and constructed the first stable octagonal dome, called the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (the Duomo). Although being an independent architecture was very difficult, Brunelleschi managed to find a way to create the dome. (How Stuff Works- Article) David Wildman, an architect and designer at duVisst/DesignWild in Nashville explains how Brunelleschi designed the structure of the dome. He says, “To construct the brick walls of the dome, Brunelleschi employed a novel herringbone pattern that allowed the brick to self-reinforce as it was being laid so that the bricks wouldn't fall off the wall as it became more inclined.” The duomo served as evidence that he was the greatest architect of the Renaissance. (Wikiart-Filippo Brunelleschi- Article) Another one of his accomplishments was being a sculptor. He sculpted artworks such as The Sacrifice of Isaac which had been engraved into a wooden door. Brunellleschi also created the sculpture, Madonna with Child which was very
