In the study, diastolic and systolic blood pressure remained relatively constant when healthy food such as green salad (containing lettuce, tomato, cucumber and feta cheese), mixed vegetables (containing carrots, beans, baby marrow and gem squash) and a fruit salad (containing oranges, melons, grapes, strawberries and apple) – were consumed. When unhealthy food such as a cheeseburger, oily fried chips and doughnuts were consumed, the diastolic and systolic blood pressure increased slightly and then dropped.

In this study, participants were not allowed to eat food at least two hours before the experiment was conducted. This was to ensure that food that the participants had previously eaten before the experiment, did not affect the study being conducted. This could be a limitation as one does not know how long it takes for food to digest and therefore affect blood pressure. One also doesn’t know the amount of food it takes for blood pressure to be affected. This could also be seen as a limitation. Another limitation would be that one doesn’t know the eating habits of the participants and therefore don’t know if the participant is healthy. In the future to rectify this situation, one could examine how different amounts of food affect the blood pressure differently. With more information, one could rectify how long it takes for food to affect the blood pressure. One could use more food types and larger portions to get more accurate and reliable data. Scientists could examine which unhealthy food affects blood pressure the most and therefore harms a person the most. Future studies could also examine which healthy food affects blood pressure the least and therefore is healthy for the heart.
