The role of a forensic psychologist will involve assessing, restoring, and determining mental functioning levels to decide whether an offender is mentally fit to stand trial. A person is fit to stand trial only if they can understand the proceedings that are taking place during the trial, and, can also communicate with their counsel with rational understanding.

As a psychologist I would want to know about Edward’s past and childhood. I would want to know if he suffered any mental illnesses as a child and if he was treated. I would want to know his family history, if he had a history of violence as a child. I would look into his past to see if he was ever arrested for prior violence. When the officers arrived they noticed two bodies at the scene, a man and a woman, John and Jane, which were the owners of the residence and his parents. Jane had been murdered in the car’s right front passenger seat and then dragged out of the car to her current position. Witnesses who were on the scene were there to visit the couple when they found the bodies. The client was still on the property when the police arrived. In the police report the witnesses stated that Edward met them outside, and told them to call an ambulance as “something had happened there” and told to leave. I would interview teachers, coworkers,friends, family, church members, neighbors, anyone who has had a relationship with Edward. I would also look into his medical history to see if there were any indications of mental health problems in the past. Edward was diagnosed with having schizophrenia after stating that he was having some deluisions. There are five different types of schizophrenia. There is Paranoid, catatonic, disorganized, and undifferentiated and residual schizophrenia. Edward has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, which gets its name from the symptoms, which the client will suffer from hallucinations and delusions that will make him think that someone is out to get him. A diagnosis of schizophrina can be made, when two or more of the symptoms present themselves during a psychiatric evaluation.
