The book, True Notebooks, by Mark Salzman, is about the author volunteering at L.A.’s juvenile hall to teach young offenders how to write. The teenage boys in his class are high-risk offenders, they are in custody for murder or other serious crimes. This book is a great read for anyone, especially writing students, who can gain inspiration from these troubled kids who express themselves through their writing. This book should be required reading in Professor Marquez’ English B50 class because it is captivating, moving, and it can motivate a struggling writing student.
Surreptitiously and quietly, the posted sentries at the main entrance leading to the Dweller city of New Hope maintained their duties guarding it, keeping watch over any potential threats that may arise from beyond the entrance at any time. We aren’t taught to just begin a task without an exact goal in mind. But this method can sometimes lead to the discovery of an even greater reward. In today’s society, we as writers are trained from an early age to reach a set objective by any means necessary. But when looking back on this concept, aren’t we missing the whole point of completing the assignment in the first place? In this paper, I will adopt this notion of starting a piece of writing without a specific end result in mind, in the hopes of discovering myself as a writer and developing a powerful paper in the process.
Thou shalt not start a paper with a question, and thou shalt not speak directly to the reader. The terror in my eyes was evident across the room. Everybody knew that I was absolutely screwed and they felt bad for me. When I got my rough draft back from Mrs. Graff, it looked as if it was delivered from a war zone, soaked in red, and marked up unrecognizably. On the top of my paper next to my name was the grade I would have gotten if this was my final paper.
After reading through my Fences essay, I am happy with how the essay turned out but in the future their are areas I think I can improve on. I felt as though my thesis was strong and demonstrated my argument in the essay. Although, in the future I think I can strength my essay by adding more analysis and evidence. By adding more evidence from the text in my essay, I would be more able to go deeper in analysis and better explain my argument. Along with using more examples from the text, using more outside evidence that exemplifies the say idea would strength my essay and make me a stronger writer.
Then a girl in the back of the room finally decided to speak. “I write to express myself.” She raised her head up and looked around the room. “To write hard and clear about what hurts as Ernest Hemingway once said. ” The room fell utterly silent again.
I constantly wrote in it everywhere I went whether it be waiting for my various clubs and activities to happen, or on the bus, or during the bus ride home . My journal was like a big huge cooking pot that beckoned me to write in it everyday. The pot was never too small to hold all my ideas and thoughts. “Write in me,” it would say.
Dancing Through the Pages Reading has never been a hobby of mine. Yeah, I would read the required books for school or may pick up a random book occasionally, but I have never been a bookworm. Some books I read in class were, personally, not stimulating. There was one, however, that stood out to me and grabbed my attention from the very first page, not knowing that this book, later on, would leave an impact on my fascination of a previous decade and dance career.

All throughout my life I have explored my passion for creative media through creating websites, editing videos, capturing photographs and technology. My interest in creative media dates back to my first years in high school, where I excelled in technology, editing and capturing photos. Creative media has always interested me due to the fascinating aspect of technology.
It’s the rush of adrenaline flowing through my veins that first gets to me. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest, as my excitement levels rise to unaccountable amounts. I feel my body tense up as my breathing becomes deep and elongated, the longer I wait for the sooner I will pass out from containing myself, containing my joy. For most people writing is a task, a simple school assignment, a normal Saturday afternoon spent wasting away, staring at a blank screen with a blinking black line, as it taunts you. However, to me, writing is a way to connect to the outside world, a way to make my dreams become reality.
What I noticed when I watched the Seahawks two games against the Bengals, and the Panthers were that the opposing teams must have found a weakness in the Seahawks defense through film of their inability to cover good tight ends. Against the Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert had eight receptions 90 yards two touchdowns. Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen had seven catches 131 yards one touchdown which was the game winning touchdown that beat the Seahawks couple weeks ago. What the Bengals, and Panthers seemed to do was throw at strong side safety Kam Chancellor who's not really known to for his coverage skills. These tight ends were able to run good crisp routes that put Chancellor in bad positions to be able to cover them.
The first card marking was a wake up call for me. I realized my assignments and work were no longer going to cut it. If I don’t work harder, I will not succeed. It was almost like I was pushed into a pool and I could either work to stay afloat and adjust to the cold water or I could do the opposite and let myself sink.

My life was changed that day, I didn’t know it then, but now that I do I wouldn’t change it for the world. My day started like any other: wake up, go to school, then go home.
