Forms Of Government: Unitary, Confederate, And Federal

There are many forms of government , all having advantages and disadvantages. Some examples of government include Unitary, Confederate, and Federal. These three forms of government all have their pros and cons.

A unitary form of government is a sovereign state governed as a single entity. Some advantages that come along with this form of government involve the citizens feeling a sense of belonging. Which inspires patriotism, since all states have things in common. Which means that all laws are the same for the whole nation, and no state is better than the other. Some advantages that are included in this form of government are that each region or province are all equal to each other, as well as all the states act as the decision-making part of the government, conversely to a unitary government. This reduces the risk of “becoming a tyranny or dominant union” (“Confederacy”). However, a confederacy also has some disadvantages, such as they do not last long since it is considered decentralized, which makes it an unpopular form of government. Also, since each state has authority, there is a struggle for political power. “States would also have a great possibility to become secessionists which may lead to the conflict among the Confederacy” (“Confederacy”). And lastly, “The central government becomes a weak institution as the authority comes from the states. Some advantages of a federalist government are that they consist of smaller branches of local governments which are located in the middle of the local society, which makes it easier to deal with things that need to be changed. This form of government also includes the system of checks and balances which make it so that one body of government is unable to have more power than the others. Also, smaller local governments are included in a federalist government, which allows the citizens to feel more involved in the decisions of their government. However, there are also disadvantages that come with a federalist government, such as a struggle for power between the two bodies in charge. “This can cause things like strikes and make the government much less effective than it could normally be” (Lombardo). Also, “With the responsibility of the government being shared, it becomes very easy for one sector to release responsibility for the other” (Lombardo).
