"In his defense, the kid was being a jerk.” says Hannah. "I don't care!" shouts Carrie, "I don't care if he was being a bully! You ruined your chance, yet again, to have a nice Foster home. They wanted to adopt y'all! Both of you!" "I don't want to have to be adopted by those people, let alone be their Foster child, charity case." I say loudly. "Being a Foster child doesn't mean you're someone's charity case, Charlie, and if someone thought that I would never let them take you in.", says Carrie, her tone softening." Carrie had made me promise I wouldn't get in trouble again. I tried to convince myself that being adopted into a horrible family was better than having to be taken away from good families over and over, but it didn't work. All I really wanted was to be able to stay with Hannah, like we always have. Hannah already left for her meeting. She tried to convince Carrie to let me go with her, but Carrie says no and that this was for the best. I drove to the restaurant where I was meeting the Smiths – Part 2.
