Frankenstein Research Paper Mary Shelley created the book Frankenstein (The modern prometheus) using the Greek Mythology story of Prometheus as inspiration for her character Victor Frankenstein. Prometheus was a greek titan who stole fire from the gods on Mount Olympus to give to mankind, even after Zeus had told him not to. Prometheus was then punished by having to live eternity chained to a cliff and to have his liver pecked out by a raven or eagle depending on the depiction of the story, everyday forever. Shelley wrote Frankenstein for months, and used Prometheus’s story to help develop the personality of the main character Victor. Victor has an obsession with lightning and nature, he is so involved in his work that he does not see his family for a few years. Victor’s obsession leads to him researching how to reanimate dead flesh and bring new life. After studying for months Victor finally figures out how he can bring new life into the world. However things took a turn for the worse when Victor saw the creature and ran away out of complete horror. Victor and Prometheus both use lifeless material to create living beings. While Victor used dead flesh, Prometheus sculpted man out of clay and brought it to life, so although they use very different material, they both created their own form of …show more content…

Victor also denies the creature’s asking of Victor to make him a companion. The creature asks him to make a wife to which Victor refuses because he believes that they will only kill more people and cause terror. When Victor refuses, the creature then becomes very angry and threatens Victor and his family . Victor creates more problems for himself and others by refusing to make the creature a wife.
