I can remember when every street in town had four or more houses in the part of town where the trees live. Now there is only two standing there on Assiniboine Ave. this street goes straight through the middle of town and at the end is now another eye sore. The old high school which was built in 1926 used to stand there. You could see it from my Grandpa Tom Black Eagle’s house on Assiniboine Ave. they bulldozed it in 2004. It sat abandoned since 1986 when the school moved in the current brick school that I graduated from in 2000. The old school was a very special memory to me. I can remember going there when I was a kid to watch my Dad coach the Bear Cubs and play Independent Basketball in there. I remember watching the games and eating slush burgers from the concession stand. One time in the stands on the north side of the old gym I had a basketball in my hands I threw it at a ref but didn’t get ejected from the game. We went to State in ’73-’75. We had the best runners in the state. We won the State Cross Country Championship in 1970 ’71 72 and ’73. Now we are lucky to even make state in any sport. The Bear Cubs are in a drought and I don’t know if we’ll ever revive our sports teams or our dying town. We used to be so proud of our town. We kept it clean, our lawns were mowed and we had gardens in the back yards. People did everything together. We had baseball tournaments and we sponsored bingo and Keno at the old hall. That brought the town together. We lived at that hall every night. Out famous caller was Curtis Johnston he had a slow call that everyone laughed at. He’d say
