A frequency count is another form of documentation that can help a teacher see what actions a child is performing and how often that action is happening. When using a frequency count, the teacher will use a tally system to record events that happen often For example, if a child is being physical, lets say this child likes to punch or bit, a teacher can use the frequency count to keep track of how often this action occurs. The reason this can be important for a teacher is that in the long run, the frequency count can help a teacher change a unwanted behavior. For the example I have given above, a teacher can take the information in the frequency count to create a plan to try to reduce the occurrence or that behavior. On the other hand, the frequency count can also be used to see whether or not a behavior is present in in the child. For example, if …show more content…

From that information the teacher can also put together a plan to help the child achieve this desirable behavior. In both cases given above, a teacher can use very similar techniques to help change the behaviors observed in a frequency count. Some of the methods that can be used are role modeling the desirable behavior, directly telling the child, or helping the child with self-regulation. The information recorded when using a frequency count can be shared with families or other faculty. Some of the most often information recorded that are shared with parents are behaviors that have been successful. When using the example of pouring the pitcher and not succeeding, if you have implemented some methods to help the students achieve this action, and it has worked, this information can be shared with the families. If I was a teacher and wished to share some successful information I have gathered using the a frequency count tool, I would say something along the lines of “over the last few days I have observed Child X do so and
