The founder and CEO Keenan Avery of KeyFit, the health and mental exercise performance center, today announced its grand opening for its first official gym located at East 116th Street in Manhattan will offer (current and former) undergraduate students the ability to exercise and receive therapy sessions for a seasonal fee of $100. Prior to KeyFit, Mr. Avery served as a student activist and supporter for health and exercise at local gyms across the Tri-State area. Avery is neither a scientist nor a doctor. Although, common sense and substantial evidence can tell us the major causes of weight gain and psychological trauma can be attributed to students having to stress about grades, financial responsibilities, and one’s future.
The validity in connecting students gaining weight from stress is the infamous freshman 15. The article “Freshman 15: College Weight Gain Is Real” by Jennifer Warner is a recent study that proves that nearly one in four freshman gain at least 5% of their body weight, which is approximately 10 pounds, during the course of their first semester.”
There are critics that question the CEO’s actual plans for KeyFit. However, KeyFit’s founder is looking to take on the cumbersome task in an attempting to change student lives. Which, to his credit he’s made KeyFit incredibly successful among students within the local community. Critics also believe that these changes in behavior and environment for example can be from students partying and drinking.
