In William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" it appears the Nurse and Friar Laurence are the reason for Romeo and Juliet deaths. The play which is set in Verona is a story about a long feud between the Montague and Capulet families. This feud causes tragic results for the main characters in the play, Romeo and Juliet. The events contrast hatred and revenge with love and a secret marriage, forcing the young star-crossed lovers to grow up quickly and die tragically in despair. Among the characters involved with this foiled plot was Romeo's close friend and advisor Friar Laurence. He played a major factor towards Romeo and Juliet's death. He kept their secret and assisted in the planning of their secret marriage. Friar Laurence was the one who married the two in hopes that the marriage would end to the family feud so he is partially responsible. The Nurse is another character that must share a portion of the blame in the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. She was Juliet's trusted friend and in some circumstances could be held in the like regard as a mother figure. She acted as an intercessor between Juliet, Romeo, and Friar Laurence. She would send letters to Romeo for Juliet, and was the only one out side of the three that knew of the secrete marriage plans.
