Even though Capulet, The Nurse, and Friar Lawrence are highly responsible for the lovers’ deaths in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is ultimately most responsible for their deaths because he was the one who married them even though he knew nothing good would come out of this marriage and he made a plan that failed that led to the death of Romeo and eventually Juliet’s. Capulet contributes to Romeo and Juliet’s death by giving an ultimatum to his daughter while Friar Lawerance is also responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death by agreeing to marry them even though he knew nothing good could come of it. “Romeo, who lies dead, was the husband of Juliet. And she, who lies dead there, was Romeo’s faithful wife. I married them; their secret wedding day was the day Tybalt died”(Shakespeare V, III, 281). The Nurse contributes to Romeo and Juliet’s death by betraying Juliet in her time of need by telling her to marry Paris and give in to her dad’s wish. While Friar Lawrence helped lead them to their deaths by failing to succeed in the plan to reunite Romeo and Juliet. The Nurse is at fault because she’s the closest thing to a mother that Juliet has, but in her time of need, she goes against Juliet and tells her to marry Paris. “Then since things are the way they are, I think the best thing to do is marry the Count.”(Shakespeare III, V, 205). Though The Nurse carries the blame for betraying Juliet which started her spiral of lies, Friar Lawrence is still to blame because he failed at spreading the word to Romeo which led to his death by poison and Juliet’s death by grief and killing herself.”It worked as I planned.
