In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, the children of the feuding families, Romeo and Juliet, happen to fall in love with each other at first sight. Romeo, madly in love, came to Friar Lawrence to marry them, despite just meeting Juliet a few hours before. Friar Lawrence sees the impulsiveness in this marriage decision, yet disregards it and marries them, and also keeps Romeo and Juliet’s relationship a secret, resulting in their devastating deaths. To begin with, Friar Lawrence is accountable for Romeo and Juliet’s death because he authorized the lovers’ hasty marriage. However, the real reason behind her “ungratefulness” is because she is actually married to Romeo, who she secretly married with Friar Lawrence’s assistance. The fact that Friar Lawrence subtly concealed Romeo and Juliet’s marriage ultimately led to their tragedies. People who disagree may believe that the Nurse is actually to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Some people may claim that since the nurse knew about Romeo and Juliet’s marriage, it’s her fault because she didn’t do anything about it. This may be a strong argument because the Nurse helped Juliet with her decision on getting married to Romeo and communicating with him. This evidence, however, overwhelmingly supports my argument that Friar Lawrence is the one to be blamed for Romeo and Juliet’s death. Even though the Nurse was aware of Romeo and Juliet’s relationship, Friar Lawrence was behind their marriage and plans to escape Verona. It is clear that Friar Lawrence should be blamed because he created and carried out a precarious plan that evidently risked the lives of Romeo and Juliet. In conclusion, Friar Lawrence
