How does industrial pollution from factory use impact the environment, health, and economy of America? Frida Kahlo is a well known Mexican painter with works of art known for their boldness and vibrant colors. Once such image was called “Self Portrait Between the Borderline of Mexico and the United States, 1932”. In this painting, Kahlo depicts the dual lives she leads with the Mexican culture on one side, and the American culture on the other. With each, she also includes characteristics of each culture, like the Mexican flag and clothing, and the American flag and factories. This pollution greatly harms the environmental, health, and economical aspects of society. Pollution harms the environment by contaminating the air, water, and soil. This can cause things like increase in skin cancer, death of numerous marine life, and contaminated foods that grow in contaminated soils. Pollution also harms the health of those working in factories, as well as those outside of the factories. Factory workers are exposed to damaging toxins which can cause illnesses like hypertension and heart disease. Those outside are exposed to polluted air or consume the water/organisms in the water that have been exposed to contamination and toxins. This can cause many illnesses and diseases as well. Lastly, pollution from factory use also harms the economy because it can cause nutrient pollution. This can cause increases in drinking water costs, loss in tourism, and loss in real estate. Although, some people may believe that factory use has more positive effects than negative. They use claims like it provides jobs, and that the pollution coming from them is decreased by the CAA so they are no longer a threat. However, in both cases, the negatives do outweigh the positives.
