The fundamental issues to youth employment highlighted in the Brotherhood of St Laurence in the Australian Youth Employment 2014: Snapshot?
Youth employment is rapidly becoming a core concern in the Australian economy and it's on the verge of becoming social disaster (Cook 2014) where almost 40% of the unemployment rate is made up by youths aged from 15-24 (Brotherhood of St Laurence 2014). In the snapshot, developed Brotherhood of St Laurence (2014), the fundamental issue of youth unemployment revolves around the training and development needs of youth employees in the rapidly shifting global economy. Youth employment readiness seems to lack in the areas of employable skills qualifications, work experience and personal connections (Brotherhood of St Laurence 2014). The article also highlights issues of the detrimental impacts that youth unemployment on destabilising the growth of the Australian economy, because youths cannot productively contribute to their societal system, it can result in a decline in the national economical growth and increase in public costs to support youth unemployment.
