My project is going to help my local American Legion Post in creating an area in where the legion members (veterans) can talk and socialize. This project is going to consist of installing a barbecue system and beautifying the area around the barbecue system. Also, it is imperative that the area around the barbecue looks nice aswell. Some of the tasks for beautification include : Painting a concrete wall found in the back of the eating area.

James Fallows’ article, “The Tragedy of the American Military”, presents an argument on whether the military nowadays is cared or thought about as much as it used to be. Throughout the article, Fallows explains how different the military is treated today. He believed that the military was understood better in the past than in the present, and he provided examples, including some personal experiences, that shows Americans not valuing the military as they once did. You can say that my journey with the Military started the day I was born. I was born on April 29, 1998 at the 7th Medical Group on Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. With the love and care I received from the neonatal nurses that were stationed on Dyess Air Force Base I quickly lost the title of ‘premie’. In 1999 my mother and father were both assigned to Landstuhl Army Base in Germany, I appreciated the military letting them be together. I am so blessed having my mother as a Medical Technician, I knew I was always in great hands when I was sick.
In order to run a successful organization, especially a good standing Army, there needs to be quality leaders within the organization. Leaders are artists, remaining flexible and adaptable in order to conform to any certain situation. In FM 6-22, leadership is defined as, “the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization”. The vast majority of successful Army leaders exemplify this definition in their everyday life. So, what exactly does this process involve?
Military to Civilian Transition Some people do not understand the challenges that one might go through during their processing out of the military. A smooth transition from military to civilian lifestyle should require the individual to go through a class that discusses the differences between the lifestyles, how to get a civilian job, and financial preparations. They also might need additional assistance for any mental health issues they acquired during their time in service. It is important to take each transition seriously to help set the veteran up for success. Military members who are planning on transitioning should be required to go through necessary steps, classes and trainings prior to their discharge.

I prepared early by joining naval junior reserve officer training corps(NJROTC) my freshman year of highschool. I joined and competed in many activities such as air rifle, armed drill exhibition, chain gang, community service, and orienteering. The unit taught me discipline and how to become a leader.
