Lisa Bates-Ramos is a Latina writer and illustrator. During her childhood, she spent her summer vacations in Sector la Araña, Puerto Rico, with her grandparents. Her grandfather, an amateur painter, introduced Lisa Lynn to her first set of paints. Once vacation was over, she continued to paint at home, on anything and everything. On walls, brown paper bags, and her brother’s play clothes.
The pillar will contain a collection of photos of the marches he organized and attended, and it will be decorated with colourful mosaics of agricultural scenery that represent his homeland. At the first panel of the pillar, there will be his famous quote, “¡Sí se puede!” carved into the marble. The other three sides will be pictures. This will be the centerpiece of a garden, with circles of bushes with walkways.
The names of the group of people in this story were many and will be remembered. Jose de Jesus Rodriguez a man that traveled for the first time to the U.S. Enrique Landeros Garcia was a man who got lost and coming from San Pedro Altepepan, who had a wife Octavia and a child named Alexis who didn’t want him to go but he wanted to better their life. Reyno Bartolo Hernandez was a friend of Enrique and was a coffee farmer and was married to Agustina. Lorenzo Ortiz Hernandez, from the same place as Enrique and Reyno, he had five children and a wife and he didn’t have enough money to afford to keep up with the family so he went to better the life of his family. Reymundo Barreda Maruri and his son traveled because once again there was no work in Mexico
In Prominent Themes in Chicano Art, Alicia Gaspar de Alba explains, “The Chicano art movement functions as the aesthetic representation of the political, historical, cultural, and linguistic issues that constituted the agenda of the Chicano civil movement.” Chicanx artist use murals, posters, vernacular art, and performance art to express themselves. Chicanx art is usually created in oppression to the standards of the art world. The artwork typically expresses the struggles Chicanx face like racism, immigration, labor struggles, and gender sexuality. Art is also used as a tool to depict cultural pride.
The art she created with ASCO was not a typical painting that would go into a museum’s collection. Chicanx art didn’t have much a meaning. Therefore, Valdez felt a bit discouraged to pursue a career in art. She knew art wouldn’t provide her with a decent lifestyle. Nonetheless, after working with ASCO, she saw a possibility for an art career.

In the case of Giorgio de Chirico, his repressed consciousness manifests itself in the surreal concoction of oil paint on canvas known as The Transformed Dream. At first glance, the viewer might simply see an odd collection of objects composed into an oblong still life.
In the 20th century, Picasso moved to Paris, France to start his own studio. Many artists called this time the Blue Period of his adult career, which was from 1901-1904. Picasso 's famous paintings from the Blue period were "Blue Nude", "LaVie", and "The old Guitarist". Picasso also was interested in warmer colors and called this period the Rose period from 1904-1906.
I gained some insight from this piece of artwork. I chose to start with this video due to my background knowledge on the Virgin of Guadalupe. However, I obtained so much more knowledge after viewing this. The thing that was most striking to me was when Juan Diego presented his cloak to the bishop, not only did the requested roses fall, but also the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Next, I observed the Sun Stone documentary.
Sakoto Fujikasa featured work of artistry displayed within the Harn Museum is know as “Stream.” This piece in particular demonstrates a medium that has been contorted to displays various ripples and waves to resembled that of flowing water. Hence, the name “stream” best befitting it’s whimsical nature. However, at a deeper interpretation of her piece, it can be seen that there is a hiding meaning.
Known for his defining role in the Mexican Mural Movement, Diego Rivera sought to create paintings that depicted the Mexican renaissance and socialist ideas of Mexican politics. After some time studying in Europe, Rivera was influenced by Italian renaissance artist Giotto to paint using fresco techniques (famsf.org). “Two Women and a Child” serves as an example of the theme he portrays in many of his paintings. While the fresco technique was predominantly used during the Italian renaissance, Rivera revitalized this ideal by including it in his painting of “Two Women and a Child”. Rivera’s use of techniques in Two Woman and a Child provide viewers with an understanding of the strength, pride, and perseverance Mexico had during the Mexican Renaissance.
In this video Friedman discusses the role that the government plays in trade. He personally supports the free trade form of trade. He discusses free trade using international trade as his example, but it is believed that domestic trade possesses the same principles as international trade. Another key point for Friedman in this video is tariffs. It is believed that if we do not put tariffs on foreign products and the foreign manufacturer is able to produce it for less of a price than the domestic manufacturer; then, only the foreign product is being purchased.
Works of art that relate to what is happening at the time is a way for historical studies to shape the way people studying the time or events taken place. The Creation, by Diego Rivera painted over the span of a year. During which he was representing the religious and political views and outreach in the community. Another work by Rivera, Los Explotadores show the exploitations of government officials, the wealthy, and landowners and how they treat the poor and the indigenous people.

The Oakland Museum of California is a remarkable place to experience art in a museum for the first. It is a small museum but, it has so much to offer. It includes an Art gallery, History gallery and a Natural Science gallery. Walking up to the entrance of the museum, I noticed the museum is small but it had a sense of space surrounding it. The exterior had little decorations and the building has a simple but very geometric shape.
